About the Wales Coasts and Seas Partnership

The Wales Coasts and Seas Partnership (CaSP Cymru) bring together businesses, organisations, and community and academic representatives who care about the future of our seas. The Partnership works to support clean, healthy, and thriving seas for Wales by encouraging shared understanding, joint working and informed decision making.

Our aim is to strengthen the resilience of the marine environment in Wales and to support the ambitions of the Welsh Government for the sustainable management of our seas.

How We Work

The Core Partnership of CaSP Cymru is the overarching marine stakeholder group of the Welsh Government, who organise meetings three times a year.

The current Chair, Dr David Tudor, is appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs.

The Core Partnership has identified, and works to deliver, three keys ‘enablers’, our priorities to support the delivery of the Vision:

  • Increasing ocean literacy across all parts of society - raising awareness of the significance of our coasts and seas will encourage further action across policy areas, and other administrative frameworks such as Public Service Boards.
  • Improving blue investment and developing longer term sources of public and private finance, crucial to support delivery of key objectives.
  • Building coastal capacity, particularly at the local level, to enable meaningful community engagement to identify local opportunities and challenges and deliver action.

Our Commitment to Collaboration

CaSP Cymru members share a commitment to working together to deliver the ambitions of the Welsh National Marine Plan and to support a resilient future for the coasts and seas of Wales. Collaboration, shared learning, and open communication are at the heart of our work.

The Core Partnership has published a Shared Narrative to align and direct their work.

The Core Partnership is made up of those organisations with a national role, a pan Wales remit or recognised expertise in the marine and coastal sector.

The Terms of Reference for the Core Partnership can be found here.
